Genia and Bruce Wennerstrom together with Steve Christini and John Rossi embrace the innovative 2WD motorcycle at SARDI'S in New York. On September 11th, 2007, VivaDUCATI extended an exclusive invitation to its members for a lunch presentation on the Christini designed AWD Motorcycle Technology held at SARDI’S in New York City. The event was hosted by The Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving & Chowder Society, founded in 1957 and chaired by Bruce and Genia Wennerstrom who also head the Greenwich Concours d'Elegance each June. Christini's patented mechanical All Wheel Drive system delivers power from the motorcycle transmission to the front wheel through a series of chains and shafts. The lightweight all-mechanical system works similar to that of AWD systems found on four wheeled vehicles.
Should the rear wheel slip, the AWD system engages, transferring power to the front wheel until traction is reestablished at the rear wheel. In the dirt when the front wheel under power, it is nearly impossible to wash out the front end. Steve Christini had several cutaways showing the internal workings of the system and had the latest 450cc single, motard utilizing a 450cc single Honda power plant.
For a company that began making 2WD off-road bicycles, the technology transfer into engine driven systems for motorcycles is very elegant and functional. The true test will be riding on the bike later in October when Steve and his team will be invited to NHIS to test ride his team’s latest machine. The date has not been confirmed.
