Lucas Oil INDY Mile.
August 29, 2009 The Roots of Racing. Travel with VivaDUCATI's Indianapolis MotoGP entourage to witness the roots of motorcycle racing at 120+MPH on a 1-Mile, dirt track oval.
The INDY Mile is formally known as the AMA Flat Track Grand National. It is the “Crown Jewel” of the American Motorcyclist Association’s oldest and most traditional professional motorcycle racing. Appropriately enough, it is run on the Saturday night of the Indianapolis MotoGP at I.M.S. when the eyes of the world and visitors from around the world descend on the Racing Capital of the World.
Flat track racing is followed by thousands and represents the grass-roots of the sport where many of America’s greatest road racers began: Kenny Roberts, Nicky Haden, and the acclaimed dirt track champion Chris Carr is still going strong.
You may have experienced rear tire slides while dirt riding, or controlling rear-wheel spin on your street or superbike. But, an up-close and personal walk through the infield pits and track-side viewing will humble you to what professional flat track racers can do at 120MPH in a full lock and lean. Impressive and skilled riding is an understatement.
