News from ICMA, Milan, Italy

Less is More . . . when you are Streetfighting.

EICMA Show in Milan, Italy, November 4, 2008

Sees the unveiling of a new Ducati Streetfighter for 2009.

Italian designer Oberdan Bezzi, has crafted the Ducati Streetfighter on the 1098R power platform, tubular frame chassis, with new rear tail section of magnesium that integrates an under seat exhaust. Passenger pillion (non-existent in this mock-up) that is said to be protected by an insulating ceramic layer  . . . . from the space shuttle no doubt. Many carbon fiber components will maintain a record low weight and record high price I suspect. Of course a lesser displacement model in plastic will likely be expected in July 2009 after all the hoopla over the big-bore, big-show, Oooooooo's and Ahhhhhhhh's, magazine covers, awards, well, you all know how this works by now I hope.

We'll wait to see . . . and ride it. I am sure it is a blast - 140HP+ and 320lbs I am guessing, it ought to be fun.

The first rendered glance looks very cool. Sort of a hybrid evolution of the 900SSCR half-fairing on the platform of a new Superbike with inspiration of a Hyper, Monster, and Benelli Cafe Racer. My God, what will the purist say if there are no big round cans hanging under the seat. At least they got a single sided swingarm on it right out of the box.

Perhaps Oberdan will be the man who will be credited in Ducati's history as forever changing minds of traditionalists that two round cans can give-way for an integrated exhaust.

Thanks to path's paved by previous innovators, the revolution can proceed in earnest, one-decade later. It looks like the fight for design innovation continues on the streets.  more>>
