| Ducati Multistrada 1200 vs BMW G | |||

| My dear and respected friends from REDLINE Ducati, VA forwarded an interesting link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjDOcfMlrqw&feature=player_embedded# that I have to respectfully comment on. First, everyone should walk, run, bus, or fly to buy 2- new DUCATI’s from REDLINE. Maybe even a spare. Now, about the claim in this video by these two euro-posers talking about where to store the key-fob and helmet and claiming the Multi-strada is ranked tops over BMW-GS, . . . Get a GRIP! Not until DUCATI has a few DAKAR wins under their belt. This is the real test and proving ground of the dual sport that was led by BMW / Gaston Rahier (http://www.webbikeworld.com/BMW-motorcycles/bmw-r80gs.htm ) in the 80s. That is 25-years of off-road race winning breed into the BMW GS. DUCATI could compete in a DAKAR, win, and evolve the latest Multi-strada into the dominant machine (as their MotoGP race bikes are). After all just remember PIKES PEAK – The hypermotard won (http://www.ducati.com/news/08/news016/news016.jhtml ) but that is a 12 to 15 minute drag race up a mountain. Not a 7000Km race across Africa. In fact the real Paris/Dakar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakar_Rally is now just called the DAKAR (as a series) and is run in Argentina and Chile since there was a so the threat was very real from lunatic terrorists intending to shoot riders and drivers in the barren stretches of Africa. So, lets play fair here. How about a red DUCATI bullet proof Kevlar suit, Carbon Handled AK47, and a real off-road factory equipped RACE DUCATI 1200 Multi-strada for a DAKAR . . . then you’ve got the proving ground to compete in before tall claims are made to unseat BMW's big-bike dominance. (Oh, and did we forget the all the other brands that run in mud every Sunday and make mid-size and big-bore DAKAR bikes. Yes the new DUCATI 1200 Hypermotard is a nice bike. That is a truth DUCATI can claim over most every BMW, especially the utility GS. But beyond that it, it takes real work. To lead is to WIN. To win is to LEAD. | Winter into Spring - Two Speed Sports | |||
| Written by John Rossi | |||
| Spring is always an interesting time. While most motorcycle riders are all worked up over Daytona and maybe getting close to riding in the sand and potholes here in the Eastern U.S., my world is still snow filled and winding down (temporarily) on the ski season. My latest trip to Lake Placid and the Olympic Ski Courses of White Face put me shoulder to shoulder with the Alberta Ski Team’s head woman’s coach, Pete Deisroth. He coaches these up and coming world class athletes who are competing for the few top slots on the national teams that place them on the starting gate for 09/10 World Cup with goals of the Olympics. If you want to see fast, powerful, and committed – as close to MotoGP and Superbike – it is world class skiing. These are some of the finest athletes in the world. Skiing and motorcycle was always a seamless sport for me, one was a training ground for the other. If any readers here at VivaDUCATI are interested in winter sport as a spectator, a civilian skier, or attending ski-race training camps, drop me a line. We’ve got a few things in the works you may be interested in. Next month, it is the pilgrimage to Tuckerman’s Ravine, in the White Mountains of NH. | |||
